The MYP at Sias IS

Sias International School (Sias IS) is the first candidate IB (International Baccalaureate) MYP (Middle Years Programme) school in Zhengzhou. The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is for learners between the age group of 11-16 years old. Sias IS aims to develop 21st-century learners through student-centred inquiry driven learning. Individuals are prepared to negotiate with challenges and unmet expectations and become problem-solvers in real life situations.

Teachers implements concept-driven curriculum framework taught through Approaches to Learning skills preparing learners for the rigour and challenges of the IB Diploma Programme (Grade-11-12; Pre-university). Students are engaged in inquiry-based learning to explore and understand real-life issues concurrently through different subject groups making learning connected and meaningful for students. Learners are provided with the scope to enhance their communication, research, thinking, social and self-management skills through range of teaching strategies expanding their spectrum of knowledge and becoming lifelong learners.

Students  gain understanding by exploring eight subject groups for their holistic development. Teachers ignite inquiries by presenting provocative questions and situations for students to explore through multiple Global Context as prescribed in From_Principle_Into_Practice_Aug_2022.pdf. 

Students engage in regular Formative assessments (For learning) where teachers share feedback to inform teaching and learning. Summative assessments (Of learning) are end of the unit performance of understanding tasks/assignation to inform about learning that has happened.

At Sias IS, students engage in Service as Action which is a mandatory component of the MYP. Students plan activities to support others, the environment built or virtual or an issue of global significance in a meaningful manner. In service activities they take Action, Research and/or Create Awareness on issues of concern deriving from the learning outcomes of the units of inquiries. Students get the opportunity to a share their voice and agency to multiple audience through Student-Led Conference, Community Time and 3-Ways Conferences with the school community.
