Job Description 

Department: Primary and Upper School                              

Term of Employment: 2 years

Reporting Accountability: Primary Principal

Scope of Responsibility:

Every faculty member at Sias IS is responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate environment in accordance with Sias IS program philosophy, school policies and procedures. The Counselor is responsible for planning, teaching and assessing engaging learning experiences and providing social, emotional, behavioral, language and academic support collaborating with other educators in the school and maintaining strong relationships with the parent community. 

Counselors are expected to work a total of 190 days, a minimum of 180 as student-contact teaching days. Responsibilities include attendance at school during set hours to teach, supervise and interact with parents, colleagues and students as well as curriculum-related work days, parent meetings, and conferences.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • using a case management approach, track at-risk students, keeping appropriate records and offer consultative support or direct services as needed
  • develop individualised programs and individual learning plans
  • offer proactive developmental counselling as schedule and time permits
  • provide one-on-one or small-group academic and personal counselling
  • participate in the admissions processes
  • facilitate parent and staff learning
  • organize referral for evaluation and coordination with outside providers
  • crisis management when required.
  • provide guidance lessons for Early Primary classes
  • additional duties when requested by the Principal
  • overseeing child protection
  • managing reports of harassment and bullying, and cooperating with the Principal or HoS to investigate

Required Qualifications, Skills, Experience and Attributes:           

  •  Learning Support and/or Counselling professional qualifications
  • Professional certification for the relevant area of the school 
  • Early Childhood teaching experience highly desired
  • At least two years related working experience
