Purpose of Job:
To implement the inquiry-based curriculum in the classroom, promoting students’ agency for learning and ensuring that Sias International School develops well-balanced and innovative individuals.
Duties and Responsibilities
l Demonstrate substantial knowledge in the subject area and further develop it through professional learning.
l Participate in collaborative planning and reflection to effectively implement the curriculum within the subject group and other subject teachers.
l Ensure that the curriculum fulfills the aims and objectives of the relevant subject group, in each year of the program as prescribed in the Individuals and Societies Guide and From Principle into Practice document.
l Ensure all unit planners, subject group overviews, and ATL charts are completed before the unit starts, and further develop them as the unit progresses.
l Ensure all components of the MYP like the Concepts, ATL Skills, Global Contexts, and Inquiry-based meaningful teaching strategies are implemented in the classroom.
l Ensure that the minimum requirement of all strands of the criteria prescribed in the Individuals and Societies Guide is assessed twice in a term year.
l Ensure that timely feedback is provided to the students for the consolidation of teaching and learning.
l Ensure that students are engaged in concept-based teaching through inquiries and exploration avoiding direct content delivery in the learning experiences.
l Ensure that students are provided with scope for differentiated teaching and learning based on language ability and for its development and considering students’ learning needs.
l Ensure that students are engaged in at least one Interdisciplinary unit involving two or more subject groups in each year of the MYP.
l Ensure collaboration and liaise with the MYP coordinator and Subject group leaders for curriculum planning and its implementation, as and when required.
l Demonstrate commitment to mentoring students in learning opportunities beyond a subject area through the PYP Exhibition, the Personal Project, and the Extended Essays.
Assessment
l Be aware of students’ capabilities and their prior knowledge to plan students’ learning experiences.
l Plan formative and summative assessments to support students’ learning and development.
l Provide scope for differentiated assessments including student’s voice and choice.
Administration
l Demonstrate knowledge of all school administrative systems, and use them effectively, ensuring that they are up to date and in line with school expectations.
l Use the knowledge of each student to produce clear, informed reporting on their progress.
l Demonstrate commitment to the wider school community through involvement with, for example, school events, trips, and/or extra-curricular activities.
Pastoral care
l Demonstrate commitment to and promote child safeguarding practices and follow child protection.
l Demonstrate commitment to providing high standards of pastoral care for all students.
l Manage students’ behavior constructively and respectfully; promoting self-control and independence.
l Be alert and responsive to the social and emotional needs of students and support their development through teaching practice and out-of-class supervision, liaising with specialist colleagues where necessary respecting the school policy.
l Follow the Code of Conduct in the Child Protection Policy.
Professional Development
l Participate in appropriate IB-recognized professional development liaising with the MYP Coordinator.
l Set professional learning goals and participate in teachers' evaluation procedures.
l Participate in subject-specific and whole-school collaborative meetings and reflection for professional development, authorization, and accreditations.
